Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman talked about India’s progress in electrification, water access, and economic growth during a conversation with John J. Hamre in Washington, DC.

She highlighted that every village in India now has access to electricity.

In 2014, many villages, even those near state capitals, did not have basic electrical infrastructure.

Sitharaman stated, "I don’t think any village in India is unelectrified today. Households have received connections. Back in 2014, many villages lacked even a pole for electric wires. Now, all that has changed, and houses have electricity."

The Finance Minister also mentioned the Jal Jeevan Mission, a program started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide tap water connections to every household.
